James MacArthur, the adopted son of famous Hollywood couple Helen Hayes and Charles MacArthur, died today of natural causes. He was 72.
MacArthur?s talent and the notoriety of parents Helen Hayes and Charles MacArthur put the actor in the spotlight for his entire life, which ended in Florida today. ?MacArthur is most remembered by many for his role as Detective Danny Williams on Hawaii Five-O, a show that featured his character in its famous catchphrase, ?Book ?em, Danno.?
?We?ve lost a special part of our heritage today,? said Peter Lenkov, executive producer of the new Hawaii Five-0. ?James? talents and memorable role helped bring this series to life and his support of our remake meant the world to us.?
MacArthur didn?t wait long to make an impact on the acting world, appearing in Deal a Blow in 1955, during his junior year of high school. ?The aspiring actor attended Harvard University, but appeared in films during summer vacation. In 1968, MacArthur was tapped for Hawaii Five-0, which would run for 11 seasons.
?The phrase ?Book ?em, Danno? will forever be testimony to an actor and character that will not be forgotten,? said Lenkov.
